A legislative interim committee on truck registration fees is inviting input from stakeholders at a meeting set for Oct. 4 at the state Capitol. It will be the first meeting of the Commercial Vehicle Annual Registration Fee Committee, a panel of 10 lawmakers charged with studying registration fees imposed on commercial vehicles, and potential weight/distance operating fees for all commercial vehicles and for farm vehicles that weigh over 60,000 pounds. It’s a hot topic, after a state-commissioned cost-allocation study in 2010 showed car owners are overpaying for Idaho roads while heavy trucks underpay.
